Facebook's 2015 results show that mobile advertising already accounts for 80% of the company's revenue.
In the period, the company recorded a 44% increase in revenue to US$ 17.9 billion. Net profit was US$ 3.69 billion and the number of users ended at 1.04 billion, up 17% on December 2014.
The network's mobile accesses grew by 17% to 934 million users generating traffic on cell phones and tablets. Mobile was the company's main source of revenue, accounting for 80% of turnover and an increase of 82% compared to 2014 when mobile revenue was 69%.
The success of WhatsApp
WhatsApp, the messaging app bought by Facebook in 2014, has passed the 1 billion user mark worldwide. The company announced on Monday that the figure represents an increase of 11% compared to September last year, when WhatsApp reported 900 million users.
According to a company report, more than 40 billion messages are exchanged every day. A total of 1.6 billion photos are shared, as well as 250 million videos. There are more than a billion active groups, ranging from family topics to contemporary issues.
Brazil is the country with the highest number of active groups. "We were inspired by the way Brazilians use WhatsApp in Brazil," the company said in a statement.
Last year, WhatsApp was blocked by the courts for more than 12 hours.
